This position located in the Physical Security Section of the Security Branch, Security Services and Assessments Division, Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (OLE/FAMS), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If selected, you will serve as a Physical Security Specialist within the Technical Security Unit, responsible for the application of physical security measures and programs designed to safeguard personnel. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring compliance with TSA's physical security requirements
- Identifying routine and complex problems associated with the effectiveness of security related operational policies and procedures. Assisting in the review and development of general physical security policy and direction for application on an organization-wide basis.
- Installing, modifying, maintaining and repairing complex perimeter protection systems; alarm and intrusion detection systems and devices; electronic access control systems; closed circuit television systems; locking hardware and other state of the art security systems and devices at TSA Facilities nationwide. Using basic electronic skills and troubleshooting electronic circuitry, electrified locking hardware and DC circuits as they relate to the above referenced systems. Effectively and efficiently using machines, tools, and specialized equipment; using computers and specialized computer applications to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format.
- Serving as a technical specialist in the nationwide deployment of HSPD-12. Using knowledge of security programs, Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12), and activities in other components of DHS and other government agencies that impact, are impacted by, or otherwise relate to TSA security programs and operations in order to provide technical solutions, guidance, design and implementation for state of the art security systems.
- Serving as principle technical specialist, project lead, team lead and subject matter expert for physical security and addressing more complex security issues. Assisting Section leadership in the planning and use of funding and resources. Setting and coordinating priorities for IT and physical security projects ensuring deadlines are met. The major duties described above reflect the full performance level of this position. Typically, the lower Pay Bands (Pay Bands G and H) perform the similar duties such as providing case work for review and direct supervisor approval.

- Experience applying a detailed knowledge of a broad range of access control, operational security and technical security design and application concepts; utilizing a detailed knowledge of security programs, Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12), and activities in other components of DHS and other government agencies that impact, are impacted by, or otherwise relate to TSA security programs and operations;
- Experience applying a detailed knowledge of installation, administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of operational security programs including access control, video assessment and surveillance, locking hardware and system circuitry, and intrusion detection systems; detailed knowledge of vulnerability and risk assessments; and detailed knowledge and skills in physical security techniques and electronic countermeasures and application into a Risk Based Model and environment. OR B. Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field; OR three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related. OR C. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed higher level graduate education (beyond second year) and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for this position, and may be computed by first determining your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the band level; then determining your education as a percentage of the education required for the band level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the position. GRADUATE EDUCATION: Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts indicated above meets the requirements for this position. Such education must demonstrate adjudicative knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. One (1) year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. TRANSCRIPTS: Applicants who meet the qualifications listed above based on education or a combination of education and experience must provide proof of education such as a list of completed college courses or the date and school of degree including the number of semester or quarter hours or a transcript from an accredited college or university. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
