Johns Hopkins University Research Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland

General summary/purpose: The Research Assistant (RA) will provide support to a multidisciplinary team in the Department of Health Policy & Management. The RA will focus his/her efforts on assisting with several projects, ranging from a randomized trial of a behavioral intervention to improve communication among patients in active treatment for breast cancer, to policy analysis of state programs, and secondary data analysis of a national survey.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

Related to Clinical Trial of Behavioral Intervention

  • Disseminate and track regulatory materials and other study materials to participating clinical sites

  • Prepare and issue study certification to sites that have met all regulatory review and approval requirements

  • Provide regular updates of clinical site project status to the study team

  • Assist in maintaining IRB and regulatory compliance

  • Use software applications such as spreadsheets and graphics packages to assemble and format study reports

  • Preparation and formatting of slides or posters for training or presentations

  • Set up and coordinate study-specific meetings and conferences such as meetings of the Protocol Committee

  • Conduct screening and follow-up phone calls with study participants

  • Obtain informed consent and enroll participants into the study

  • Assist in final data analysis and reporting with statistical software

  • Other responsibilities as required

Related to Policy Analysis

  • Assist in the development of key informant interview guides

  • Conduct key informant interviews

  • Synthesize reports of best practices in state policies/programs/legislation

  • Integrate and compile conclusions from reports and interviews

  • Assist in drafting a white paper for dissemination

Related to Data Analysis

  • Assist with compiling findings from data analyses

  • Preparing written summary of findings from data analyses

  • Performing literature reviews

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and some related work experience in program support. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

Preferred qualifications:

Prior collaborative research experience desired. Prior experience conducting telephone-based research study interviews desired

Starting Salary Range: $15.78 - $21.69 (commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Working 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday 8am-5pm

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
