The IHL Program Officer will work as a member of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) team to implement IHL Education programs, aimed at educating the American public about IHL. Knowledge of international humanitarian law required and a strong interest in program management, international issues, public international law, human rights and international relations or related fields is essential. This position will report to the Director, International Humanitarian Law.


  • Work with the ARC Marketing department to create and promote professional-quality tool kits and other promotional materials for use by ARC chapters, partner agencies, and community groups as well as promoting IHL awareness internally.

  • Coordinate messaging with Marketing and Communications departments to ensure consistent branding.

  • Represent IHL team with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the organization of IHL educational outreach events with internal and external partners.

  • Implement and refine strategies to raise awareness of IHL programs in the United States.

  • Manage IHL webpage and social media outlets (blog, Twitter, etc.).

  • Communicate with internal and external audiences via Constant Contact.

  • Research and draft grant opportunities for IHL program support.

  • Assist Youth Education staff with trainings, marketing, and communications as needed.

  • Perform other administrative duties, as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in human rights, international affairs, or related discipline preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience with progressively increased responsibilities in a related education field, preferably with diverse audiences. Knowledge of international humanitarian law. Experience working in IHL-related field is highly desired.

  • Familiarity with social media tools in order to communicate developments on IHL to students, professional audiences, and members of the public.

  • Must have strong training and facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrable experience in project management.

  • Demonstrable experience in developing education material for external partners.

  • Must display flexibility, adaptability, initiative and be team oriented.

  • Foreign language skills, particularly Spanish, are highly desired.

  • Selected candidate must already be legally allowed to work in the US without any need for Visa Sponsorship now or in the future.
